Staff Nurse

Position Title: Staff Nurse

Position Location: Colorado Birth and Wellness (CBW), home of Denver Center for Birth and Wellness and Hygge Birth and Baby.

Summary: The staff nurse is responsible for all clients under his/her scope of practice following the policies and procedures of the birth center. The staff nurse is managed by the Clinical Director. Staff midwives may delegate and supervise clinical tasks to the nurse as well. The administrative directors may directly supervise the nurse with administrative tasks and responsibilities. The role of the staff nurse is to care for the client, newborn baby and assist the midwife as needed.

Essential Duties and Scope of Responsibilities:

Prenatal care and birth

  • Takes client vitals and performs routine labs as needed

  • Completes lab requisitions, bags specimens and places them in lab box for pick up as needed

  • Calls/sends email or text to clients with appropriate lab results

  • Clearly and thoroughly documents all client issues and care provided in client’s chart, including checking off to-dos as completed

  • Triages phone calls during office hours and gives advice within scope of RN practice and determines if the client needs immediate CNM phone triage

  • Available to provide 24-48 hour postpartum visits as needed

  • On-call/ attending births

  • Is available by phone or pager at all times while on-call for births

  • Available to assist at birth center when called in

  • Maintains a vehicle in good working order at all times

  • Clearly and thoroughly documents all birth, postpartum care and phone calls

  • Sterilizes and restocks equipment and supplies as needed

  • Ensures client, family and friends are welcomed and made to feel at home in the center

  • Stays at the center as needed after being called in for labor and at least 4 to 6 hours postpartum, or until the client is discharged from the center, or until replaced by another staff midwife or staff nurse

  • Participates in the cleaning, sterilization and restocking of birth rooms

Postpartum care

  • Coordinates with midwifery staff to provide clinic or home visits to clients and their baby

Administrative Duties

  • Labs processing - Review and input labs in client chart

  • inventory

  • ordering

  • scheduling

  • call triage

  • Answer client emails or forward to midwife

  • Review and input records from other providers

  • facility checks (autoclave cleaning, readiness checklists, RCA reports, etc)

  • training and drills

Compensation:

  • $38,000-$42,000

On-call Shifts

  • 9-11 call shifts monthly (10 average, 2/2.5 per week avg)

Administrative work requirements

  • 4-8 hours per week (depending on births)
