We believe that the days following your birth are just as important as the days before.
We support gentle, evidenced-based practices that support health and well-being for both birthing person and baby. We encourage skin-to-skin and delayed cord clamping for all of our families, and offer many other supportive services to help ease this important life transition.
Many families choose birth center care because they want a gentler transition for both parent and baby. We are able to provide excellent care while maintaining a close bond during the first hours and days of life. Our midwives are trained to provide assessment and care for babies during this important period of time.
Parent and Baby Friendly
After your birth, your midwife team will assess the health and well-being of both you and baby. This happens while you are both snuggled together in bed. Vital signs are taken and monitored according to evidence-based recommendations. We firmly support and encourage as much uninterrupted skin-to-skin time as possible, and we defer the full newborn exam until at least 1-2 hours after birth. At this time, your midwife will perform a head-to-toe exam on baby, ensuring that they are healthy and well.
Our staff will draw you an herbal bath and serve you an ayurvedic turmeric rice porridge to nourish your healing process. All of our patients receive multiple check-ins with care providers to ensure you and baby are well physically and emotionally before going home.
Unlike the hospital, our families go home as soon as 4-6 hours after birth. At home, families are better able to rest, recover, and bond.
